Cork Chamber makes history with global win
Cork has made history on the world stage.
For the first time ever, an Irish chamber has won at the World Chambers Competition — and it was Cork Chamber that brought the prize home.
The chamber took first place in the Best Collaboration of Chambers, Business and Government category at the 14th World Chambers Congress in Melbourne.
Their winning project, Facilitating Sustainable & Competitive Growth through Local Green Deals, was created with Cork City Council. It links climate action with economic growth and has already been recognised at EU level.
Rob Horgan, President of Cork Chamber, said: “This global recognition is a testament to the strength of collaboration in our region. Our Local Green Deals prove that local actions, built on measurable impact, can lead to citywide, and now global, transformation.”
The Local Green Deal model brings businesses, government and civic partners together under signed agreements. Each deal includes clear targets, timelines and accountability. Already, tens of millions of euros have been mobilised into green investment — from banks and universities to SMEs.
Dr Alicia Mateos-Cárdenas, who presented Cork’s pitch in Melbourne, said: “This award is a reflection of what’s possible when purpose meets partnership. Our model is not just Cork’s success, it’s a framework any city can use.” Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber, added: “This award places Cork firmly on the international stage as a city region that consistently punches above its weight. We are proud to bring this award home, not just for Cork Chamber, but for our entire business community.”
The World Chambers Congress brought together over 1,000 leaders from more than 100 countries.
The competition is the only global programme of its kind, highlighting projects that drive innovation and prosperity through collaboration.
