Choose wisely and you’ll always have an arsenal of stylish outfits
You know, I don’t particularly like to follow trends, nor do I think they should dictate your personal style.
However, every now and again, they do come in handy for style inspiration and to give you a bit of direction for the season ahead if you feel like you’re sartorially floundering.
A little peek of what’s coming down the runways will often get me thinking about pieces I already have in my wardrobe that can be given a new lease of life. I also like to spot pieces I’ll wear right through the year and give little tweeks to depending on the season. Choose wisely and you’ll always have an arsenal of stylish outfits to hand.
I’ve recently done a big edit of my wardrobe and I’ve found the less items I have, the more creative I’ve become with what I’m wearing. Less really is more and I can now easily see what I have in my wardrobe.
It also helps that I’ve really edited down the amount of prints and colour that I have and at the risk of sounding boring, I’m having a real moment with neutrals. Creams, khakis, browns with a hint of leopard are my current go-to outfit situation.
There are few trends for autumn/winter 25 I know will see me through to next spring and one trend I’m loving and is going nowhere is the modern preppy. It's a look I like to wear casually or it’s also particularly good for giving a new update on your workwear if you’re not required to be too formal in work. Polo and rugby shirts fall under this category, and they instantly add a bit of polish to jeans or trousers.
I love a colourful, oversized striped rugby shirt paired with a silky slip skirt while a fitted polo can look super chick worn with jeans and a blazer. Add the hottest shoe trend for autumn/winter the loafer and you’ve got an easy to wear stylish look. For work, style argyle cardies with trousers and earn extra style points if you incorporate plaid into the look. This is a look that will transcend the seasons so invest now and wear all year round.
I’m also big on textures and gorgeous, luxurious textures are big news for this season but also will be going nowhere for spring which I’m very happy about. Fringing is perhaps one of my favourite textures and I find it hard to resist a fringed garment.
I’ve spotted a gorgeous fringed wool coat from NKD which has a boho feel but fringing can also be quite sleek. H&M have a black cropped silky jacket with tassel fringing all over and it is so stylish. I’ve had my eye on it for ages but I’m not sure if I can justify anymore fringing in my wardrobe. Leather and knitwear are also a huge part of my winter wardrobe and work just as well in the spring months. Give a nod to the trend with accessories and update your wardrobe with a fringed handbag if you don’t feel like going gung ho with the tactile textures. Speaking of accessories and you know we love an accessory, I’m also obsessed with large pendant necklaces featuring handy little pouches.
