Shock and sadness in Doneraile

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days for a young father of four who was killed in a violent attack in North Cork at the weekend.

Barry Daly, a well-known postman from Mallow, was found dead in the early hours of Sunday morning near his home in Doneraile.

It is believed he was the victim of a violent assault using a blunt object.

A spokesperson from An Post said: “The CEO and all An Post staff, particularly the team at Mallow Delivery Unit, are deeply shocked and saddened at the untimely death of our colleague, Barry Daly.

“We offer our deepest sympathy to Barry’s family. May he rest in peace.”

Mr Daly leaves behind his partner Katie and four children Ryan, Jayden Jaxon, Archie, and Bodhi.

In the condolences section of Rip.ie one person wrote: “Condolences to all your family and friends. Barry was our postman and he always had a little chat and a fist bump or high five for my son (4) in the morning when delivering the post. It used to make his day. Rest in peace Barry.”

Another wrote: “Bar was a gentleman, a rogue, and always so much banter when we met. We will always remember our days with Boher Celtic and especially the chats at your mam and dad's.

“Rest peacefully Bar bud, You'll never to be forgotten.”

Two males, one aged in his 20s and the other in his late teens, were arrested on Monday morning and were charged in connection with the investigation.

They have both since appeared before a sitting of Mallow District Court on Tuesday.

A third male, also in his teens, is being held at a local garda station.

Gardaí have said that they are continuing their appeal for witnesses to contact them and are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Doneraile village, from 12 midnight to 2am last Sunday 12 October.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022-31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111, or any garda station.
