Ballincollig gets Cork city’s first Type B pedestrian crossings

Type B pedestrian crossing in Ballincollig a first in the city

Type B pedestrian crossings are designed to improve safety by giving pedestrians clear priority and increasing visibility for motorists, without the need for expensive flashing beacons. They are more cost-effective and easier to maintain than traditional crossings, while still meeting all safety standards.

Sinn Féin Cllr Joe Lynch welcomed the upgrade, highlighting its benefits for safety and visibility.

“I am delighted to see new Type B pedestrian crossing signage being used by Cork City Council and for Baker Street in Ballincollig to be the first place they’re being utilised in particular,” Cllr Lynch said.

Cllr Lynch praised the Local Area Engineer for Ballincollig for leading the initiative and expressed hope that the new crossings will be rolled out more widely across the city, both in the city centre and suburbs.
