A living tapestry of remembrance

A heartfelt invitation has gone out to people near and far to come together and honour loved ones.

It’s part of Nano Nagle Place’s Threads of Remembrance for 2025, a campaign which continues the tradition of remembrance through crochet hearts lovingly made by the Lantern Project’s Crochet Ladies and blessed by the resident Presentation Sisters. Each heart represents a life, a memory and a story, a shared symbol of connection, care, and reflection.

It builds on last year’s Crochet Hearts of Remembrance. This year, the spirit of the campaign is brought to life through a new handmade textile mural created by Lantern Project tutor and artist Isabelle O’Neill. The mural and hearts are now on display in the gift shop at Nano Nagle Place, where visitors are warmly invited to pause, reflect and add their own crochet heart and memory in tribute. The mural will continue to grow throughout the autumn, becoming a living tapestry of remembrance that embodies Nano’s enduring message of compassion and hope.

People can take part by Visiting Nano Nagle Place to add a crochet heart in person, or making a donation online, where the team will lovingly add a heart and message on their behalf.

Donations to Threads of Remembrance help sustain the community work inspired by Nano Nagle’s legacy, supporting programmes in education, inclusion and social justice. Nano Nagle Place is proud to operate as a registered charity, and every gift, large or small, helps make a real difference in people’s lives.

John Smith, CEO of Nano Nagle Place, said: “Threads of Remembrance is more than a campaign. It’s a gentle space for reflection, connection and love, a way for us all to remember those who are gone but never forgotten. And while it’s a fundraising campaign, it’s first and foremost about community, about coming together in memory and in hope.”

He added: “Each donation, no matter the size, helps us continue Nano’s work of compassion, inclusion and community. It’s a way of turning remembrance into hope.”

The campaign runs through the autumn months, concluding with a special Remembrance Concert in the Goldie Chapel on Monday 18 November, featuring the MTU Gospel Choir. All are welcome as we remember our loved ones together. The concert will also be streamed live for Nano Nagle’s international community.
