So much pride across Cork city

Not one or two but five community groups have been shortlisted for the well known IPB Pride of Place Awards 2025.

Taking place next month, Pride of Place Awards are an all-island celebration of community-led development, recognising the achievements of local groups across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The awards honour those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to building inclusive, vibrant, and resilient communities.

The Pride of Place Awards are a highlight of the community development calendar, offering national recognition to grassroots initiatives that strengthen local identity and foster collaboration.

This year, Cork city’s shortlisted groups reflect the diversity, creativity, and strength of local initiatives working to make a real difference. Céilí Cois Locha is nominated in the Creative Communities category for their vibrant celebration of culture and connection through dance and music.

Sauti Studio Project has been recognised in the Creative Youth Initiative category for empowering young people through storytelling, media, and music.

Clogheen Kerrypike Community Association is shortlisted in the Urban Neighbourhood under 3,000 category for their outstanding work in fostering local pride and environmental stewardship.

Cork Dragons are nominated in the Community Wellbeing Initiative category for their inspiring support of cancer survivors through dragon boat racing and peer connection.

The Mexican community in Cork has been recognised in the Inclusive Communities category for their vibrant cultural contributions and commitment to inclusion and intercultural dialogue.

Speaking ahead of the awards, Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Fergal Dennehy, said: “These nominations are a powerful reflection of the spirit and strength of Cork’s communities. Each group represents the values we hold dear—creativity, inclusion, wellbeing, and pride of place. I am deeply honoured to serve as Lord Mayor at a time when Cork is being recognised across the island for its community leadership. These groups are not just shortlisted—they are shining examples of what makes our city so special.”

The IPB Pride of Place Awards 2025 will take place on Thursday 7 November at the Strand Hotel, Limerick and is organised by Co-operation Ireland in partnership with IPB Insurance.
