Dundalk urban poet, Jinx Lennon.

Lennon me, when you’re not strong…

There’s going to be a boisterous night of punk, antifolk, beats, and all-round good noise in Coughlan's later this month.

On 28 November, Dundalk urban poet Jinx Lennon will join forces with Cork’s own punk power couple, Wasps vs Humans, for what promises to be an unmissable show at the iconic Cork city venue.

For Jinx Lennon, singing about where you’re from in the voice you were given is what it’s all about. He writes with guts and with unhinged volume and he doesn’t stutter. He writes about Dundalk and the borderlands. He writes about the lost souls and mangled heads from Dealgan Blayney, Forkhill, Carrick, Newry, Cooley, Carlingford, and “godforsaken Drogheda”. You don’t need to know a single thing about any of Lennon’s subject matter to be instantly mobilised and uplifted by his wild energy.

Earlier this year saw the release of Jinx Lennon's 14th record, ‘The Hate Agents Leer At The Last Isle Of Hope’ which he released here in Cork. He described his latest work as a diary of what’s happened in the world in the last couple of years.

He said: “The name of if sort of came with the awareness of extremism coming over from Europe.

“It’s also about being a musician and what it takes to still believe in what you're singing about as time goes on, the love of music and the power of music.”

Joining Jinx on stage will be husband and wife duo Wasps vs Humans who will be bringing to the mix their anarchic blend of drums, bodhrán, whistles, punk poetry, songs, and beats.

Their latest single, ‘'Death Chamber Visits’ dropped in September. It’s a raw, hard hitting track that cuts close to the bone as it tackles the horrors of capital punishment, American style; an execution with punk guitars, bass, urgent vocals, yet up-beat.

Both Jinx and Wasps have shared the stage with the likes of John Cooper Clarke, The Fall, Whipping Boy, and Christy Moore. Friday 28 November will see them team up once more at Coughlan's on Douglas Street for what promises to be an evening of jarring beauty and thumping truth.

Supporting Jinx and Wasps will be Ronan's Feats of Strengths.

Tickets for the show are available now at €17.50 from coughlanslive.ie.
