Man arrested in stabbing probe released
A man arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Cork city at the weekend has been released without charge.
The man, aged in his 50s, was arrested following the death of Mark O’Connell, 30s, who died on Sunday as the result of a stab wound to the chest.
It is understood that Mr O’Connell suffered the injury during an altercation at a residence in Hollyhill in Cork city’s northside in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene shortly after 4.30am following reports of a disturbance involving two individuals.
Mr O’Connell was rushed to CUH where he was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí confirmed that a post-mortem examination has been completed, however the results are not being released for operational reasons.
Anyone with available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, who were in the vicinity of Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork city, between 3.30am and 4.30am on Sunday morning, 16 November, is asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
