Final repairs after Storm Bram
Storm Bram has come and gone and has left hundreds of homes and businesses without power in Cork county.
North Cork looks to be the worst hit area in the county with about 220 ESB customers in Buttevant without power on Wednesday morning.
ESB crews were hard at work with many homes getting their power back before noon and others hoping for full restoration by 7pm yesterday evening.
Mallow had 19 homes without power while 22 premises were still waiting for repairs in Cloonlough yesterday morning.
Youghal town was hit too with 22 premises left without power approaching midday yesterday.
Power was restored to 146 homes in Clonakilty yesterday morning, with a further 45 customers near Castletownroche getting their power back just before 9.30am. ESB Networks crews and partner contractors were deployed throughout Tuesday and Wednesday to assess the damage, make the network safe, and restore electricity supply in challenging conditions. As assessments across the network are completed information on power outages and restoration times will be updated on powercheck.ie.
It seems Cork was a little better off than other counties, with ESB reporting that 25,000 homes, farms, and businesses were without power, predominantly in counties Wexford, Wicklow, Dublin, Laois, Kilkenny, Offaly, and Tipperary on Tuesday night.
There was some significant flooding in Cork city at Wandsford Quay and Oliver Plunkett Street, Youghal and Midleton which had cleared up by Wednesday morning.
Trees came down across the county following the strong winds brought by Storm Bram.
All weather warnings have now been lifted, however Met Éireann has predicted more wind and rain for Munster in the early part of today, Thursday.
The national weather service said: “Thursday will be a rather windy day. A band of rain will affect the province during the morning and early afternoon. Clearer weather will soon follow from the west with brisk southerlies easing. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees.”
Nationally, Met Éireann said Friday will bring a cool and crisp start with sunshine for many, however some showers will affect Atlantic fringes. Showers will gradually extend into west and northwest counties, some heavy with the chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms. Friday night will bring some further showers across west and northwest counties but otherwise dry with long clear spells.
