Cork powerchair football team aim for league title
A Cork team will this weekend attempt to win a national title in Meath.
Heroes Cork aim to take the Association of Irish Powerchair Football (AIPF) Premier League title this Sunday on the final match day, with two other teams still in the hunt.
A 3-1 win for Heroes Cork in their latest round of matches against long time rivals Midlands United put them into pole position with a slight lead over Midlands and reigning champions Belfast Trailblazers heading into the final round of fixtures on Saturday 7 March.
Powerchair football is played indoors, with players using a special frame affixed to the front of their chair to strike the ball.
The concluding round of the powerchair football season takes place on Saturday 7 March at Gormanston Park in Meath. It promises to be a tense, exciting and action-packed finale with each team playing its final two matches of the season.
At 1.15pm, Heroes Cork face Belfast Fire while the Cork side play their second and final game of the season at 3.30pm against another Belfast side, Belfast Trailblazers.
Immediately after the matches finish, a ceremony will take place where the winning team will be presented with their trophy and individual players will be presented with best player and top scorer competitions.
It will also be a time to reflect on what has been a season of great progress for the AIPF with new players, more specialized sports chairs being acquired, and an AIPF Championship Division being added to provide even more opportunities for all to enjoy the sport.
There are still opportunities for businesses to get involved and sponsor one of these awards. Contact AIFF.ie to find out more!
