A lotto luck for two on Leeside
Not one but two Leesiders have become millionaires after two separate winning lotto tickets were sold in the space of three days.
The first win happened on Friday night when a lucky Leeside punter bagged a life changing prize of €1,005,000 in the EuroMillions raffle.
Tim O’Donoghue, owner of the Marina XL petrol station where the winning ticket was bought, was buzzing after learning his premises had sold the winner.
He said: “What a fantastic win for one of our customers here in Cork.
“We’ve been proudly serving the Marina area for 23 years, and this is by far our biggest win to date.
“We’re a busy store with customers coming and going all day, so there’s huge excitement among the team knowing that one of those shoppers is now a millionaire.”
But Lady Luck’s business wasn’t quite finished in Cork. On Sunday, the National Lottery confirmed that an online player in county Cork had scooped the €1 million top prize in the 2pm Daily Million draw. The winning numbers were 2, 3, 15, 17, 23, 26 and the Bonus was 13.
National Lottery spokesperson Emma Monaghan noted the historic nature of the weekend.
“Cork has had an exceptional Easter weekend, with two National Lottery players becoming millionaires within just a matter of days.”
She added that an email has been sent to the online winner, but the hunt is still on for the EuroMillions ticket holder.
“If you’re holding the winning ticket, keep it somewhere safe and contact our prize claims team,” said Ms Monaghan.
Though two Corkonians are feeling especially lucky this week, it was a win overall for the community with nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on games going back to local good causes.
In total, more than €6.5 billion has been raised since the national lottery began 39 years ago.
For the lucky pair of winners, they are advised to contact the national lottery prize claims team on 1800-666222 to arrange their trip to lottery headquarters.
