City renew UPMC Sports Medicine partnership

Cork City FC players will once again have access to top-class treatments for a range of injuries thanks to a partnership renewal.

Cork City FC confirmed on Wednesday that the club renewed their partnership with UPMC Sports Medicine for the 2026 season, which will provide players from the senior men’s and women’s teams with medical care and support.

The sports medicine physiotherapist team at the clinic provide treatments including rehabilitation from injury, concussion care, injury prevention and many more treatments and evaluations that support athletes. The team at the Mardyke Arena Clinic will continue to provide support to the club’s own medical staff, with particular focus on rehab for long-term injuries and testing for players returning from injury.

Joe Normoyle is a chartered physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Manager at UPMC Mardyke Arena and has also been Head Physiotherapist for Cork City FC since 2016.

He said: “To support athletes in maintaining peak performance and reducing injury risk throughout the season, timely and accurate assessment of any discomfort or injury sustained during training or competition is essential. Failure to address issues promptly can have significant consequences for an athlete’s season and long-term career.

“UPMC Sports Medicine in Cork provides state-of-the-art assessment and treatment delivered by a specialist multidisciplinary team, including Eileen Foyle, Senior physiotherapist and Head of Physiotherapy for Cork City FC’s women’s team.”

Anthony O’Sullivan, Commercial Manager with Cork City FC said: “We are delighted to renew our partnership with UPMC into the new season. UPMC provides crucial support and care to our men’s and women's senior teams that keep them fit and challenging on all fronts throughout the season.”
