Australia can really be a ‘career accelerator’

A federal territory is seeking workers that want to move to Australia as a strategic career move, rather than just a gap year or a working holiday.

The Northern Territory government is targeting Irish and UK workers as part of a new international recruitment drive, bringing its Global Worker Attraction Program to cities across the UK and Ireland this month, including a Cork event on 22 April. Jobseekers are invited to explore

how working in Australia could fast-track their careers - and what comes next.

The story isn’t about leaving for good. A spokesperson said it’s now “about going, building something bigger, and coming back with experience and credentials that can be taken anywhere”.

At a time when many in Ireland are weighing rising living costs, slower career progression and limited opportunities, Northern Australia is growing and is a place where skilled workers are in demand, rewarded, and their careers can accelerate quickly.

There is strong demand across industries including construction, healthcare, education, trades, hospitality, business and technology, with workers able to connect directly with employers and industry representatives, explore live job opportunities and learn about visa pathways and options at this month’s in-person events.

What sets the opportunity apart is not just demand but diversity. From crocodile handlers to teachers in remote communities, the Northern Territory offers jobs you just won’t find at home. And, with Australia offering some of the highest minimum wages even jobs in hospitality can pay significantly more than the UK equivalent.

The UK and Ireland have long been key partners in skilled migration for the Northern Territory, and this latest campaign seeks to connect job seekers with industries experiencing strong ongoing workforce demand.

The pitch is simple: less competition, faster progression, and a relaxed lifestyle that allows people to focus on building both their career and their life. Shorter commutes, year-round warm weather, unique landscapes to explore and ready access to industries actively seeking talent, all add to the appeal.

And crucially, it’s not a one-way move. For many, it’s a chapter - one that can open doors internationally, expand skillsets, and create opportunities that continue long after, even if they do choose to return home.

On 22 April, the event takes place at Clayton Hotel City Cork at 10 Lapp’s Quay Centre Cork, T12 RD6E.

Job seekers are encouraged to register via WorkerConnect.com.au ahead of the information session, where they’ll be able to explore job opportunities, and connect directly with Northern Territory employers and industry representatives.
