Cork artist Nella is feeling Weightless

Cork artist Nella has released her new single ‘Weightless’, following a period of touring and work in the United States with Emmy and Grammy-winning composers in Los Angeles. It is her first release since 2021’s ‘Just Breathe’.

‘Weightless’ is both intimate and cinematic, as Nella’s captivating, unmistakable Irish voice shares a story of impossible love.

Rooted in the tonal traditions of Irish folk and shaped by a global career in alternative pop and cinematic, orchestral music, Nella creates songs that feel timeless and immediate. Her voice, haunting, husky, and deeply expressive, sits at the heart of sparse, atmospheric arrangements, allowing the emotion of her songs to unfold with quiet intensity.

The track was mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Hans DeKline.

Nella has had a long and varied career to date. She has worked with Irish music powerhouse Donal Lunny where he features on her song ‘We’re All in This Together’. She is the featured vocalist on legendary folk-metal band Cruachán’s song ‘The Changeling’.

Her debut EP ‘Revolution’ reached No. 1 on iTunes, establishing her as an artist with both commercial impact and a distinct artistic voice.

Nella gained gained international recognition for her work on Blizzard Entertainment’s online multiplayer game 'World of Warcraft: Legion'. A global audience of 250 million players experienced her vocals, and she performed alongside full orchestras including the Prague Philharmonic to audiences of up to 40,000 attendees per night.

Russell Brower, composer for much of Legion’s soundtrack, said that he was incredibly grateful to work with such as “special musician and performer”.

Glen Ballard, a six-time Grammy-winning songwriter and producer - who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and Alanis Morrisette - said that he “adored working with Nella’s raw and unique talent”.

‘Weightless’ marks the beginning of a series of Nella’s exciting upcoming new releases and live shows over the coming months.
