Moody’s Café Vin takes double honour
With strong representation from across Munster, including Cork’s ever-evolving dining scene, this year’s event highlighted the depth of talent shaping the industry today.
From emerging chefs to established venues, the awards showcased the innovation, resilience and passion that continue to define Irish hospitality in a challenging but dynamic landscape.
In Cork, it was great to see Moody’s Café Vin take home a regional award. Having visited a number of times, I still find myself dreaming about a standout chorizo dish I enjoyed there last year. The wine list is superb, complementing an already impressive food offering and the staff are particularly knowledgeable when it comes to guiding diners through their selections.
This year, the YesChef Awards introduced a new category celebrating small plates, with Moody’s also securing the Munster title in this category.
Elsewhere, Thomas Butler, Executive Chef at the Johnston Estate, was named Best Chef in Leinster, while the restaurant itself was awarded Best Fine Dining in the region. I first met Thomas years ago during his time in Cork and have followed his journey since; it’s rewarding to see his talent now receiving the recognition it deserves. If you find yourself anywhere near the Johnston Estate, it’s certainly worth a visit.
Back in Munster, Waterford Castle claimed Best Irish Dining Experience, while Faithlegg was recognised for its pastry excellence, with Sarah Hore taking the award for Best Pastry Chef.
Speaking after the event, Shane Smith, NI Media praised the calibre of entries and the passion evident throughout the industry.
“The YesChefAwards exist to honour the people who pour their hearts into Irish food culture,” said Shane. “Tonight’s winners represent the very best of what our industry stands for excellence, resilience and a commitment to unforgettable hospitality. We continue to see the standard bearers of the industry evolve and that’s why we launched the Destination Restaurant category, to recognise venues that food lovers will travel to.
“The 2026 awards also highlighted the continued evolution of Ireland’s food scene, with judges noting a continued development in the landscape with Small Plates dining delivering creative food, packed with flavour that offers outstanding value for the customer.”
It was particularly encouraging to see so many Cork establishments shortlisted and recognised. Diners rarely witness the level of dedication that goes into crafting menus, preparing each dish, delivering exceptional service and ultimately ensuring guests leave satisfied. Awards like these serve as an important reminder to those working behind the scenes of the value and purpose in what they do every day.
