Blackpool project team ‘eager’ to receive feedback

Residents of Blackpool have been invited to a public consultation event to discuss the draft concept design for the Blackpool Village Core.

The event will take place in the Blackpool Community Centre, 90 Great William O’Brien Road on 9 May between 11.30am and 2.30pm.

The team behind the project said they are “eager to receive feedback on the draft design from the people of Blackpool and welcome input from anyone with an interest in the area”.

The draft strategy will be on public display for review and the project team will be available to answer questions.

Submissions to the meeting can be made in person on the day or through the Cork City Council Consultation portal from Friday 8 May to 15 May.

The concept plan was developed by Cork City Council in partnership with John McLaughlin Architects together with the Blackpool Village Team.

They said the project aims to “benefit residents, cultural institutions, businesses, visitors, and the wider community”.

Commenting on the draft plan, Cllr John Daniel Maher said the “the key now is action”.

“Blackpool is old Cork and a stones throw from our city. We need to link Blackpool via Popes Quay, Shandon, and the city. Blackpool to the city is a flat spin and it baffles me why the NTA haven’t extended the shared bike stations out to the shopping centre.

“We have the planning for the train station going in, the development of apartments - now we need more green spaces and to link all parts of Blackpool up.

“This is Blackpool’s time and we must deliver for the community,” he said.
