Pana taxi ranks to be reduced from June
Three taxi stands on St Patrick’s Street are to be reduced or removed as part of ongoing revitalisation efforts on the street.
The changes will come into effect on 2 June and will be in place for a minimum of 12 months and a maximum of 18 months.
The move was announced at the latest meeting of Cork City Council on 11 May.
The stand 12 metres south of the junction with Merchant’s Quay, on the east side of the road, will see its maximum number of vehicles reduced from seven to two.
Another stand, on the western side of St Patrick’s Street just north-east of the junction of Bowling Green Street will be removed for the duration of the revitalisation.
Finally, a temporary stand will be established on the south eastern side of the road from the junction with Maylor Street. This will operate as a taxi stand from 00.00-04.59am. Outside of these hours it will operate as a bus stand.
City Centre Committee member Cllr Des Cahill said the changes were necessary for the betterment of “the heart of the city”.
