Racing funds for emergency responders

Cars instead of creatures will be roaring on Fota Island next month in order to raise funds for Critical, one of Ireland’s biggest emergency medical response charities.

Taking place on 28 June at Fota House, the fundraiser will feature supercars, vintage cars, and emergency response vehicles.

The main attraction however will be Eddie Jordan’s 2001 Formula 1 car, one of Ireland’s most famous motorsport achievements.

As well as showcasing these unique vehicles, the event also aims to raise crucial funds for the charity, as well as teach lifesaving skills such as CPR.

Highlighting the work that Critical does, local gardaí, members of the fire service, emergency responders and Critical volunteers will be there to talk to visitors about their role on the frontlines.

Set up in 2009, Critical is a network of over 300 responders across Ireland, who work closely with the National Ambulance Service. Their staff are made up of doctors and consultants equipped with emergency response vehicles, Community First Responder (CFR) groups and off-duty paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs).

Edward Walsh, Critical Head of Operations & Standards described the event as being about “awareness, community and ultimately saving lives”.

“This event is about bringing the reality of emergency response into the public space in a way people can see, experience and connect with”, he said.

“Every single day across Ireland, Critical responders are helping people during the worst moments of their lives. The support we receive from communities, businesses and the public is what allows us to continue doing that work.”

He thanked the event’s main sponsor, Skoda Ireland, for their contribution.

All funds from the event will go to Critical, where they will be used to support staff and expand their network to other communities across the country.

There are no tickets for the event, however attendees can make a donation to enter the event. Anyone who wishes to enter their car into the exhibit can still do so on Critical’s website - criticalcharity.ie.
