No arrests in Bandon bomb investigation
There are yet to be any confirmed arrests following the discovery of an explosive device outside a home in West Cork last Thursday.
As of yesterday, gardaí confirmed there was no official update on the incident and that investigations are ongoing.
The unexploded device, understood to be a pipe bomb, was discovered in the driveway of a home on Laurel Walk in Bandon town on Thursday evening at around 6pm.
It is reported that a number of homes were evacuated following the discovery, before it was removed by the Defence Forces' Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.
Speaking to the Cork Independent, local Cork County Councillor, John Collins, described a sense of shock in the community.
“Nobody wants to see it happening anywhere, but it’s something we have never come across down here,” said the Independent Ireland representative.
“I know the man and it’s not a very nice thing to happen.
“The area it was in is a very nice area,” he added.
Gardaí are continuing their appeal for witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the Laurel Walk, Allen Square, North Main Street/Dunmanway road areas of Bandon, between 2.50pm and 3.30pm on 18 of June.
Anyone who may have seen anything unusual is asked to contact gardaí.
Anyone with mobile phone or dash cam footage from the area during the same time frame is also asked to make the footage available.
Gardaí can be contacted at Bandon Garda Station on 023-8852200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666111, or at any garda station.
