Summer - a time to be timeless
When I’m thinking of styling summer outfits, I know I want pieces that are comfortable yet effortlessly stylish.
I don’t want too much fuss and I want outfits that I can wear each summer that aren’t going to date and will remain forever timeless pieces in my wardrobe. Getting your wardrobe basics right is essential for this and in high summer, there are a couple of things I know will always form the base of any good outfit. Whether I’m going for lunch, to a gig, or off on a dinner date, with the right key pieces I know I can style these pieces up or down for casual or smart looks. No matter your style, you should spend a bit of time thinking about what the foundations of your summer style are.
Every wardrobe needs some great tops and for me, an excellent cami is essential. Step forward Vacious. Vacious is giving the humble summer wardrobe staple a seriously stylish upgrade with the launch of its brand-new Sculpt Cami Collection. Merging the confidence-boosting benefits of shapewear with the effortless style of a summer favourite, these are the camis designed to look as good as they feel.
These camis are available in two styles, and with a colour palette spanning fresh pastels to timeless black, each cami is designed to smooth, support and enhance your natural shape while offering the comfort and flexibility to wear on repeat. This top is going to be your best friend when worn with denim shorts, jorts, or denim skirts, or style with trousers or silky slip skirts. Designed to move with you, it features adjustable straps and a convenient hook-and-eye crotch opening for a secure, seamless fit. Whether paired with denim shorts for an easy daytime look, styled with wide-leg trousers for dinner, or tucked under linen layers, these are the pieces you’ll be reaching for all summer.
Another item which is a must have for your summer wardrobe is a pair of tailored linen trousers. Beyond comfortable, a pair of linen trousers is the ideal item to reach for when the temperatures are high and you just don’t know what to wear. Ideal when paired with a cami and styled with a light summer jacket or just worn as a co-ord with a linen shirt. Also, the perfect trousers for work or rolled up and popped in your suitcase.
I have been living in mine all summer. Neutral tones are fab and tres chic but I am also very much here for a stripe or a kitsch print. I spotted a pair in Next that had a lobster motif and would look great styled with a red of black body suit.
I’ve also been getting reacquainted with my midi-length denim skirt after not wearing it much last year, but I’ve already styled it this summer with light cheesecloth blouses and simple t-shirts. Pair with espadrilles or trainers and the denim skirt is such a good alternative when you want to wear denim but not jeans or shorts.
I have a light wash denim skirt that I bought many moons ago and it still looks as good as new all these years later. Whilst we are on the subject, I’m also having a moment with my denim jackets and have started wearing them a lot. Look for interesting details that will elevate your denim jacket such as frayed hemlines or boxy silhouettes and wear with lace skirts or trousers and thong sandals.
Buy well and buy items that are timeless and you’ll have a great summer wardrobe to play around with year after year.
