City council announces car park fee increases

New rates have been announced for the Paul Street and North Main Street car parks by Cork City Council, which came into effect yesterday, Wednesday 2 September.

On street-parking charges will be unaffected by the changes.

The average price increase for the Paul Street car park is €1.30, while for North Main Street it is €1.20.

The existing parking charges at Paul Street and North Main Street car pars have been in place since February 2022. Paul Street Car Park currently offers 759 spaces, and is open from 7.30am to midnight Monday-Friday, and from 11am to midnight on Saturdays.

The North Main Street Car Park offers 330 spaces, and is open from 7.30am-9.30pm Monday-Saturday, and from 11.30am to 9.30pm on Sundays.

A spokesperson for Cork City Council said: "The revised tariffs will come into effect on September 2 and apply to both council-operated multi-storey car parks.

“Income generated from the car parks support the operation, maintenance and improvement of services and amenities within the city,” they said.

They highlighted that the new rates are 80c to €1.50 cheaper per hour than comparable private parking facilities.The rates of the other car parks run by Cork City Council - City Hall Eglington Street, Grand Parade, St Finbarr’s, St Patrick’s Quay, Merchant’s Quay, Carrol’s Quay, and at the Black Ashe Park and Ride - will stay the same.
