Counselling ‘taster course’ returns
People who are interested in training to be a counsellor can get a sense of exactly what that’s like with the return of the Foundation in Counselling Course at Cork Counselling Services Training Institute in Fr Mathew St.
With over 40 years of experience in community-based counselling, they are excited to offer a taster course for people curious about counselling or looking for some basic skills in other job areas. It’s also for those considering the professional degree course, who may want to see what it’s like to train before committing themselves.
This foundation course offers an experiential approach through blended learning comprising five in-person and three online workshops. Participants will be introduced to the concept of Humanistic Integrative Counselling through theory, skills and ethics. It will be undertaken in a relational and creative way within a facilitated group and through self-directed learning.
This course is attached to a busy community-based counselling centre, and participants will be given an opportunity to witness and partake in a live supervision session with practicing counsellors. Using this boundaried and ethically underpinned opportunity, participants will have a chance to see counselling practice in action.
Past students who have completed the foundation course have said that they found it a positive experience in solidifying their decision to train to become a counsellor. They get to enjoy the process without the added pressure of grades and assignments and still reap of what they practice, study and learn.
There will be a supported introduction to some of the academic requirements of training to become a counsellor, for those who are exploring that idea. If participants decide that they would like to continue training with for the Certificate or BSc (Hons) courses, then the application fee will be waived for those that have completed the Foundation Course.
