The jacket’s back folks!

Living in Ireland, we know the value in having a selection of great jackets because more often than not your jacket will be the main character in your outfit. Autumn especially is the time for the jacket to shine as you don’t yet need a coat and you can slip on a structured blazer for example and let that piece do the talking. Here are some jackets that I just cannot do without.

First up it’s the blazer. What would we do without this wardrobe staple in our lives? As Lauryn from Joco Boutique says: “The jacket is the moment!” and I have to agree. This season at Joco boutique they are leaning into high and funnel necks, cool bomber jackets and of course an unbelievable selection of blazers. Think timeless gingham, oversized lapels, and fresh twists on classic tailoring.

I spotted recently what appeared to be a classic grey blazer in their Douglas Court store but on further inspection had such cool detailing that really gave it a more modern feel. Oversized and with easy to wear side slits, this would be a cool workwear piece but also would look amazing in your day-to-day wardrobe with white tee, denim, and some flats or elevate with heels for night time. If you want to give a classic blazer an instant update, then add some vintage brooches to the lapel – the more the merrier in fact. While I’m usually a gold girlie, I like to mix gold and silver for some interesting styling details.

I’m also a big fan of the bomber jacket and if you’re looking to inject a little bit of an effortless cool vibe into your wardrobe then look no further. A few years ago, I bought a rich khaki green bomber and it’s no exaggeration to say I have worn it to death. It’s a flattering, slightly cropped length and recently I’ve styled it over barrel leg trousers for work, but I’ve also worn it with white jeans and I’ll wear it with my black jeans in a couple of weeks when I get them out of storage.

I also purchased a light leopard print bomber with a funnel collar and again I have already worn it so much. The funnel neck brings sculptural drama and highlights the face so looks très chic with a slicked back bun and a red lip. It worked particularly well with a cream full skirt and jelly shoes, but I’ll be wearing with my brown barrel leg trousers and my dark denim jeans.

Another jacket that I wear on repeat this season is a velvet, kimono style with embroidery detailing.

This is a little bit more maximalist with its rich purples, gold and greens and you might think you wouldn’t wear it that much, but I’ve worn it loads. It works so well over slip skirts and over denim so you can dress it up or down as much as you want and if you can’t think of what to wear it’s a handy piece to have as even just styled with simple trousers it makes an impact.

You probably already own a wealth of jackets, so take them out, play around with different ways of styling them, and use accessories like brooches and scarves to give them a new lease of life this season.
