Focus Ireland announces 30 new apartments in Glanmire

Affordable housing provider Focus Housing Association has launched a new development at Ashbrook, Ballinglanna, in Cork city. The project is located on E Cliff Road in Glanmire.

The 1.46 acre former greenfield site will be the location of a new urban apartment scheme with accommodation for 30 new long-term homes.

The development comprises 12 one-bed, 12 two-bed apartments, and six three-bed apartments, all of which will have an A BER rating. It will also consist of 33 car parking spaces, and 30 bicycle spaces.

The development is part of a broader scheme which intends to build three blocks on the site, each containing 30 apartments. They will be located close to local services and amenities, and surrounded by green space. The development also has a range of public transport right on its doorstep.

A pedestrian riverwalk along will also connect into the adjacent site to the west to improve connectivity for tenants to access Glanmire and nearby public transport and amenities.

The homes will be delivered in partnership with Cork City and County Councils, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Housing Finance Agency, and the Housing Agency.

Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Damien Boylan said: "Projects like Ashbrook in Glanmire make efficient use of an underutilised land and enable households to live independently, sustainably, and live healthy lifestyles in such a vibrant community.

"I wish Ashbrook’s residents best wishes in your new homes and new beginnings," he said.

The homes are to be developed and built by Meitheal Architects Limited, led by Bridgewater Construction, and KCE Investments.

The project is also designed with modern methods of construction and sustainability where residents will benefit from lower energy bills and year-round comfort without the worry of high utility costs.

Focus Ireland CEO, Pat Dennigan said: "Ashbrook is a new build embracing our sustainability practices to protect the environment and support strong communities. It is an example of thoughtfully planned housing in the right location designed to meet the needs of its new residents.

"These homes will strengthen social networks, enhance inclusion for vulnerable groups, and help transform communities affected by housing challenges," he said.

However, he said that a quality life can only be achieved through stable housing.

While he said that the capital investment of €3 billion announced in the budget earlier this month was welcome, he said that the Government needed to put in clear investment measures to tackle homelessness effectively before it can happen.
