Invest and impress

These are always somewhere that I will focus most of my seasonal budget if I’m making a wardrobe investment. These are also the pieces that will work so hard in your wardrobe, so you want to invest in the best quality that you can afford and in items that suit your style but are also classics that you know will stand the test of time.

I have two coats; one black and one camel, that I have had for a number of years that I wear to death each winter and with proper care they are still looking as good as new. They also are a shape that suits me and fits in with my wardrobe, so I never feel like they look dated and I always know they will work well with the pieces I already own.

I’m always on the lookout for great coat designers and I love when I come across an Irish designer that combines heritage fabrics with a modern feel. Celtic Tweed is an Irish label which offers a considered edit of pieces made for meaningful gifting, bringing together timeless tailoring for both men and women. Created slowly and with sustainability at its core, each piece is designed to transcend the season, made to be worn, cherished, and ultimately, passed from one generation to the next.

At the heart of the collection is the rich character of Irish tweed, with each piece made with attention to detail and a deep respect for the tailoring traditions that have shaped Celtic Tweed. From beautifully structured coats and refined tailoring to versatile wardrobe staples, the collection celebrates the texture, warmth and distinctive character of Irish tweed while bringing it into a contemporary wardrobe. If you’re looking to invest in a new coat, Celtic Tweed is definitely worth taking a look at as elegant tweed city coats take centre stage, complemented by tailored waistcoats, gracefully draped capes and distinctive jackets that blend classic Irish style with a contemporary edge.

Likewise for knitwear, I am loving a heritage knit and for me you can’t go wrong with an Irelands Eye cardigan or jumper. The Clover cardigan in green marl is top of my shopping list and combines traditional Aran stitches with a contemporary, slightly cropped silhouette. It comes in a wide range of colours to suit all tastes and elevates even a simple jeans and boots look but would also work so well with a full skirt and chunky boots or a jewel coloured slip skirt and a pair of classic black boots. It’s a style that is so versatile and will absolutely never date, so treat with care and you’ll have this beautiful knit as a forever piece.

When it comes to boots you just cannot go wrong with a classic, low heeled, black leather ankle boot. I recently had to say goodbye to my favourite pair which I had had for about fifteen years as they were falling apart and so I am currently on the search for another style. I’ve seen a great pair in M&S which are about the €100 mark and have a block heel and an ever so slightly western feel which I know would work well with the rest of my clothing. ASOS also a number of great options with an ever so slightly more pointed heel that are very classic and have an almost pared back '90s feel to them.

Whichever pieces you pick, make sure to stay true to your signature style and you’ll get so much wear out of your new pieces.
