Aishling’s showing her chops
A first year MTU student from Cork has bagged the gold medal at the All-Ireland Shotokan Karate Intervarsities.
Aisling O’Donovan from Crookstown made quite an impression on her peers and competitors alike with her remarkable performance recently at Maynooth University where the prestigious competition was held.
The win marks Aisling’s first ever gold medal in an intervarsities competition after years of commitment and dedication to the sport.
Speaking after the win, Miriam Deasy, MTU's Sports Officer, said: “Winning gold at the intervarsities is an excellent achievement but achieving this goal as a first-year student is truly remarkable.
“Aisling is no stranger to high performance, as she has represented Ireland in karate since the age of 13.
“We at MTU offer our continued support and were proud to award her with a sports scholarship.
“We congratulate her on this well-deserved success and wish her the very best as she prepares to represent MTU at the upcoming Karate Euros in Greece,” added Ms Deasy.
Aisling will now go on to represent MTU and Ireland in the Karate Euros Greece next month, where she’ll have the chance to showcase her talent on the international stage.
