A Cork actress is getting ready to run the Cork City Half Marathon next month to raise vital funds to help support people with Down Syndrome.

Jennifer Barry, best known for her role as the feisty Siobhan Walsh in ‘The Young Offenders’ will take on the gruelling challenge on 1 June in the name of Down Syndrome Ireland.

An ambassador for the charity along with her brother Jack who has Down Syndrome, Jennifer’s goal is to promote the work of the charity which supports and advocates for people with Down Syndrome and their families across Ireland.

“I’m running the Cork City Half-Marathon for Down Syndrome Ireland because I believe in a more inclusive and supportive society – one where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” said Jennifer.

She added: “Every step I take is in solidarity with their mission and the incredible people they support every day.”

The Cork City Marathon takes place on Sunday 1 June with half and full 10km marathon routes through Cork city’s famous streets and historic landmarks. Participants have the option to walk or run the marathon.

Jennifer said: “Down Syndrome Ireland has been such an incredible support to us since Jack was small. He’s 29 now! Ever since he was a child, we’ve used their services. They have changed his life in ways I can’t describe. I couldn’t praise the work more.

“We’re joint ambassadors, and for me it’s about giving back. For him, it’s about showing people ‘I work with Down Syndrome Ireland’,” she added.
