All three Arc cinemas in Cork hosted events on Sunday.

€1,800 raised for GAA clubs

Every cloud has a silver lining and Cork’s shock defeat last Sunday in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final at least has lead to 3 positive outcomes.

Three Cork cinemas came together on the day of the final to raise €1,800 for local GAA clubs.

Supporters packed out special screenings of the big match at The Arc Cinema in Cork city and the Gate Cinemas in Midleton and Mallow, where the clash with Clare was shown live on the big screen.

While the result may not have gone Cork’s way, the atmosphere was electric and Cork pride was on full display. Entry to the screenings was free of charge, but cinemagoers were encouraged to make a €5 donation to secure their seats.

The strong turnout and generosity of Cork fans meant that a total of €1,800 was raised, which will be donated to three local clubs: St Finbarr’s GAA, Clyde Rovers GAA, and Midleton GAA. Gate Cinemas in Midleton and Mallow are both operated by The Arc Cinema Group, who coordinated the initiative across all three sites.

Simon Geasley, Cinema Manager in Mallow, said: “It was a tough day for Cork on the scoreboard, but what really stood out was the passion and support from our communities. To raise €1,800 in just a few hours for local GAA clubs shows the power of sport to bring people together, win or lose.”

The Arc Cinema Group has pledged continued support for local sport and community initiatives, with more big-screen events and fundraisers planned throughout the year.
