Record year for Clúid housing
“When I got the phone call from Clúid saying I’d been nominated for a home in Green Lane I was in shock. I just stood there on the street. It wasn’t until I had the keys in my hand that I really believed it.”
Those were the words of Mary who moved into her new home in Green Lane, Blackpool, last year.
It’s one of 162 new social and Cost Rental homes delivered in Cork by Clúid, Ireland’s leading approved housing body (AHB). Now surrounded by her own belongings in a warm, bright space, Mary said she feels a renewed sense of self-worth adding that since moving in, her health and wellbeing have improved.
Mary said: “Having my own space has really changed my life. Before I was really stressed, as I was sharing with other people and I didn’t have security in where I was living. I had problems with my blood pressure. Since getting my forever home my health has improved.
“When I meet people, they tell me I’m looking really well. I’m so much happier now, and that has allowed me to be better at my job.”
Her comments came as Clúid released its figures for 2024, which was the most successful in Clúid’s 30 year history, with 1,525 new homes delivered across the country. These include both social and cost rental homes. As of 1 July 2025, Clúid manages more than 13,000 homes in every county in Ireland, providing housing for nearly 33,000 people.
Brian O’Gorman, Chief Executive Officer at Clúid, said: “2024 was our biggest year for delivery yet – 1,525 new high-quality, secure, long-term, affordable homes for those in housing need. As a result of the hard work and dedication of the Clúid colleagues, and our partners in the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the local authorities, the Housing Agency, the Housing Finance Agency, 3,795 adults and children now have a secure place to call home.”
Clúid also expanded its construction programme in 2024. Of the 1,525 homes delivered, 649 were built through Clúid’s Developer Design and Build programme.
“We’re on track to deliver more than 1,000 homes this year, many of them through our construction programme. Clúid has been providing great homes in thriving communities for 30 years now. We look forward to the next 30 years, and our continued position as a key partner in delivering and managing social and affordable homes and communities,” Mr O’Gorman added.
Clúid is an independent, not-for-profit housing association. Since 1994, it has provided high-quality, affordable rental homes for people in housing need.
