Jack and Jill putting the care in scare
A charity boutique in Youghal is screaming out for some spooktacular donations of pre-loved Halloween costumes and décor.
From tiny pumpkins to gruesome ghouls, Halloween costumes have come a long way since the days of bin bags and paper plate masks. But with so much choice, it’s more important than ever to keep sustainability in mind. That’s why the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation is asking people to put the ‘care into scare’ this Halloween by donating their pre-loved costumes and decorations to the Jack and Jill Charity Boutique in Youghal.
Any gently used costumes, accessories, or spooky décor can be dropped off at the shop to be resold in support of Jack and Jill’s vital work. The charity provides in-home nursing care and respite support to families across Ireland caring for children with severe learning disabilities, often linked to complex medical needs.
Store Manager Ewelina Strzelczyk said: “Last year’s response was fang-tastic, and this year we’re hoping for even more donations! Costumes often only get one wear before kids and adults grow out of them or simply want something new. Instead of letting them gather dust, why not give them a second chance to scare here in Youghal? As families start pulling out decorations and planning their spooktacular looks, we’d love if they thought of us for any items no longer needed.”
Stacey Bohanna, Head of Retail at the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, said: “Halloween is the perfect time to embrace shopping sustainably and what better way than by donating or buying pre-loved costumes and décor in our boutiques? Every item donated or purchased directly helps us support 55 children currently under Jack and Jill’s care in Co. Cork. Since 1997, we’ve cared for 384 families here in the county, so this campaign really is about the community helping local families in a fun and sustainable way. It’s a real win-win: you get to enjoy Halloween while making a difference.”
The Jack and Jill Boutique is also looking for donations of autumn and Halloween home décor from pumpkin wreaths to glitter skulls and everything in between.
