'Tis the Ceysson
One of the world’s leading harpists will be performing here on Leeside this month joined by one of Ireland’s most acclaimed young sopranos.
On 27 November, French harpist Emmanuel Ceysson will perform at the Curtis Auditorium at MTU Cork with special guest soprano Sarah Shine.
The show is the second last in a nine date Irish tour and comes to Cork as part of Music Network’s 2025 programme.
Ceysson will share virtuosic and flamboyant performances of music by Tournier and Caplet and together with Limerick native Shine, they will perform exquisite songs by Vierne in addition to popular favourites by Debussy and Fauré.
One of the most sought after harpists in the world today, Emmanuel Ceysson has been a vibrant presence in leading international venues including Wigmore Hall, Salle Gaveau, Carnegie Hall, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Berlin Philharmonie since 2005.
He has been a recording artist with French independent record label Naïve since January 2012 when he released ‘Opéra Fantaisie’, a solo album based upon famous operatic arias. He has also recorded Mozart’s ‘Concerto for Flute and Harp K299’ for the Aparte Label with Orchestre de Chambre de Paris. He recently performed this work with the LA Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel.
In 2020, Ceysson joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic as Principal Harp, having previously held the prestigious position at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and at Opera de Paris.
Limerick native Sarah Shine, now based in Turin, Italy, is fast becoming one of Ireland’s most sought after sopranos. After graduating with a BA in Music Performance and a Recital Artist Diploma from the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she studied with Dr Veronica Dunne, Shine’s early career highlights include being an artist in residence at Opéra National de Paris from 2017 to 2019 and being awarded the Siemens Opera Award of €10,000 in 2018.
Most recently she sang the role of Adele in Irish National Opera’s production of ‘Fledermaus’ in February of this year. In early 2024, she performed the title role in Handel’s ‘Atalanta’ at the Barokkfest Festival in Norway. This was followed by an appearance with French ensemble Miroirs Étendus for the revival and nationwide tour of Michael Gallen’s opera ‘Elsewhere’ directed by Tom Creed.
Emmanuel Ceysson and special guest Sarah Shine will perform at Curtis Auditorium, MTU Cork on 27 November from 7.30pm. Tickets are available now from musicnetwork.ie.
