Cork County Council has announced eight cost rental homes in Carrigtwohill.

Cost rental houses for Carrigtwohill

A new cost rental scheme has been launched in Carrigtwohill for people on middle incomes.

The Baile Adaim development consists of eight newly built, A-rated, family homes. There are six two-bed mid-terraced houses and two four-bed semi-detached houses, and the rent is at least 26% below private market rents in the area.

The scheme is aimed at people who do not own a home, are above the threshold for social housing but have difficulty affording private rented accommodation. Cost rental provides secure tenancy at a rent which is below the market rent in the local area and is also a long-term secure rental option. This new tenure of rental property is supported by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Applications for the new two- and four-bed houses, launched by Cork County Council, at Baile Adaim will open at 12 noon on Thursday 27 November.

The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley said: “The development in Baile Adaim is conveniently located in this popular residential area just a short distance from Carrigtwohill’s town centre and all its amenities.

“This new scheme demonstrates the work that Cork County Council is doing in achieving the housing targets set by the Government,” Cllr Lenihan added.

Applications for the scheme will be accepted until 12 noon on 11 December via the online application portal on Cork County Council’s website corkcoco.ie.

Houses will be allocated on a lottery basis to applicants who have submitted all the required documents and who are deemed eligible for the scheme.

Renters will enter a tenancy arrangement with Cork County Council.

Further information on this scheme and other upcoming schemes, including the eligibility criteria, guide to making an application and documentation required is also available on the council’s website.
