Ireland has a host of talented jewellery designers

Jewellery has always played a huge part in my style DNA and I just cannot be without a piece or two on my person daily.

Even when I’m wearing something super casual, I will always finish the look with some gold pieces. Jewellery is such a styling game changer, and it can take a look from meh to fab with very little effort. Just layer some pieces and you’re good to go or use a statement piece to really stand out.

We are so fortunate in Ireland to have a whole host of talented jewellery designers and no matter what your personal style or budget there will be something out there for you. With the festive season (yes I have already gotten three Christmas parties booked in) just around the corner, jewellery makes a perfect gift and while clothing can be trend-led, a piece of jewellery makes for a great timeless investment.

Mettle & Bloom, the Irish jewellery brand known for celebrating women for their mettle, launched in Brown Thomas Cork recently with great success. I was so excited to hear this brand was coming to Cork as I have been a major fan online so it will be amazing to be able to go instore and try on the pieces.

I personally love to try jewellery on first and play around with lengths, layers etc. Known for elegant, story-led designs that resonate as meaningful gifts, the brand has ranked as Arnotts’ best-selling jewellery brand online for the past three consecutive months since its July debut. Founded in 2022 by former primary school teacher Sallyann Concannon, Mettle & Bloom blends timeless styles with distinctive symbolism.

Signature pieces often weave in celestial and nature-inspired motifs with premium plating and zirconia stones. Best known for their My Sun, Moon & Stars Necklaces and other inspiring pieces, it has become a go-to brand for many seeking meaningful treasures for themselves and loved ones.

“Cork welcomed us from day one. I used to travel from Galway to Cork to set up at Marina Market, so Cork has always been a huge part of our story,” said Sallyann, Founder of Mettle & Bloom.

“Launching in Brown Thomas Cork is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of. We can’t wait to meet customers in-store and help them choose pieces that mark life’s big and little moments.”

My favourite pieces feature a mix of gold and coloured stones which are both delicate and eye catching. Layering jewellery while it can seem daunting is really quite simple, for necklaces use chains of varying different lengths and create interesting details with different textures of chain styles. I like to start with my shortest necklace and have a little bit of a thicker chain for that one, then I’ll add my different length chains and keep anything with charms or pendants at the end for my final layers. It’s also super handy to buy some necklaces that have layers attached which takes the effort out of it. You can also apply the same principle to layering rings and bracelets.

I’m obsessed with pinkie rings, and I think they really add to a ring stack. Layering is a great way to add some personality to your every day jewels.
