City Hall Singers coming to the library for Valentine's Day
A special Valentine’s Day choral performance has been announced for Saturday 14 February at 2pm. The event will be held in the City Library on Grand Parade.
Music will be performed by the City Hall Singers. The group was reformed in November 2023, following a 15 year hiatus.
A spokesperson for Cork City Council said that the choir was resurrected to provide connection for staff and retirees following the “disconnect created by Covid 19”.
“There was an instant uptake and positivity amongst Cork City Council employees and retirees to restart the choir. Now they continue to meet in the Hall for their weekly rehearsal,” they said.
City Hall Singers is an SATB choir - they have singers that range from soprano to bass - with 27 members.
They perform under conductor Lorna Moore, and are an “integral part of staff engagement throughout the organisation”.
The group participates in a number of varied events during the council year, such as work launches and library events.
They have performed at the City of Welcomes, charity coffee mornings, and inter-choir nights.
In 2024 and 2025, they earned second place in the IBEC Workplace Choir of the Year Competition.
The group has also given annual performances at the Culture Night events, civic receptions, the Lord Mayor’s Gala Concert. Last year, they featured in Lyric FM’s ‘Carols for Christmas’.
