Water and heating returned at elderly residence

Water pressure issues at an elderly residence in Faranree have been resolved, after it was reported the facility had been experiencing issues for the last three weeks.

Last week, it was reported that the Ard na Rí Residential Complex in Faranree had been experiencing low water pressure which had caused residents to be left without heating or hot water for three weeks.

In a statement to the Cork Independent this week, a spokesperson for the complex has confirmed that the issues were resolved as of 31 January.

“Ard na Rí has had problems with water pressure since early January. This was reported to Irish Water on 7 January and on a number of occasions subsequently.

“Despite repeated efforts to identify the problem and resolve the issue the water pressure did not improve.

“We endeavoured, with the help of our plumbing contractors, to keep the heating system working for all of our residents.

“Our priority was our tenants and their health and safety, and we did everything to alleviate the impact.

“The solution however was outside our control,” they said.

However, the centre did not provide a specific response to some of the claims, namely that residents had been left without heating and that they had been unable to bathe or wash their hair for three weeks.
