No arrests following criminal damage

No arrests have been made following an incident of criminal damage to a premises in Cork on Tuesday for which responsibility has been claimed by an anti-Israel activist group.

Members of a group called Palestine Action Éire claim to have caused damage to a building in Little Island operated by DB Schenker, a subsidiary of Danish transport and logistics company, DSV.

The email stated this was the second action against DSV taken in Ireland by Palestine Action Éire in the past few weeks. The group cited the company's alleged provision of logistics services to Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems as the motivation for the actions.

An activist involved in Tuesday’s action said: “There are companies and sites in all our neighbourhoods that are supporting and trading with genocidal Elbit Systems. We could no longer stand by and be silent.”

Gardaí confirmed receipt of a report of criminal damage at a business premises in Little Island on 5 May at approximately 3am. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, though gardaí confirmed enquiries are ongoing.

DSV, which has offices in more than 90 countries, operates numerous sites around Ireland, the majority of which are in Dublin. The company is said to employ approximately 400 staff in Ireland and close to 75,000 worldwide.

The Cork Independent has reached out to DVS for comment on the incident, but none was received by time of going to print.
