Camden Fort Meagher opens gates for new season
One of the early signs of summer’s arrival in Cork came yesterday with the reopening of Camden Fort Meagher for the 2026 season.
The popular tourist attraction on the outskirts of Crosshaven will remain open until 1 November.
Opening hours for May and June are Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm (last entry). The same hours apply from Monday to Sunday during June and August, before reverting back to Wednesday to Sunday for September and October.
Tickets are priced at €8 for adults, with concession tickets charged at €5.
Welcoming the next season, Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, said it’s a moment to celebrate.
She said: “I encourage everyone, both local and international, to discover all that Camden Fort Meagher has to offer and to enjoy the rich heritage and stunning views that make this place truly special.”
Built primarily to defend the coastline and protect the prosperous Cork Harbour, Camden Fort Meagher is a unique military fortification steeped in centuries of history.
A large percentage of the fort is located underground, while the fort also has an extensive range of historic buildings and defence works and offers spectacular panoramic vistas.
Also welcoming its reopening was Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell highlighted the wide range of benefits the fort brings to the area.
She said: “As we launch a new tourist season at Camden Fort Meagher, we are excited to welcome visitors to one of Cork’s most unique and historically significant sites.
“Each season brings new opportunities to showcase the fort’s rich heritage, enhance the visitor experience, and contribute to the local tourism economy.”
