Trophy commemorating Paudie Palmer to be given to division 2 winners

A simple but very pleasant event took place in SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh recently when the family of the late Paudie Palmer presented the Cork County Board with a beautiful trophy that will now be presented to the winners of the Division 2 Football league.

The beautiful trophy was designed by James Collins and was initially played for on an annual basis between Valley Rovers and Paudie’s home club Templenoe.

Paudie’s wife Collette and daughter Emily formally presented the trophy to the board.

In accepting the trophy on behalf of the board, Chairman Pat Horgan said they were delighted to be receiving this absolutely beautiful trophy from the family on behalf of a man who was an outstanding GAA person and commentator and reporter for C103.

“The design is something very special and when it is been presented to captains in the coming years, everyone will know what and who Paudie represented and I would especially like to thank the family for this wonderful trophy.”

Pat also complimented C103 for their coverage particularly when Cork played Donegal. The match was behind the paywall and the C103 team gave full match commentary which was greatly appreciated.

Paudie’s colleagues from C103 Jim Nolan and Finbarr McCarthy were present.

The Division 2 league final takes place on Friday next in Ovens at 7.30pm between Iveleary and Carrigaline.
