Man held over knife attack in Cork city

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a woman was attacked with a knife on the southside of Cork city on Tuesday.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene in the Ballinlough area at approximately 6.30pm after the alarm had been raised.

The victim of the attack, a woman in her 20s, sustained a number of non-serious injuries during the incident and is reported to have been brought to CUH for treatment.

A man in his 30s was arrested at scene and taken to a nearby garda station in the city.

He was still detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, as of going to print on Wednesday.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the attack and anyone with information or CCTV footage of the incident is encouraged to come forward and contact gardaí.
