Sweet deal for honey farm
A Cork family business is part of a newly launched food range developed in collaboration with independent Irish producers.
Healy’s Honey, a third generation family-owned honey farm based in Ballincollig, will supply honey to BWG Foods’ new own-brand range, Market Square Select. The product is all-natural and packed in Cork.
For Martin Ormonde of Healy’s Honey, the company’s inclusion marks a significant milestone in its history.
He said: “We are proud to be part of Market Square Select and to see our product stocked in stores across the country. This partnership enables us to continue our tradition of producing high-quality honey products while expanding our reach through BWG’s retail network.”
The Market Square Select range will be exclusively available to independent Mace and Londis retailers nationwide.
The new range brings together a carefully selected group of Irish suppliers to deliver a premium range of everyday products with a strong combination of quality and value for consumers.
Inspired by the role of the traditional Irish market square as the heart of community and enterprise, the brand reflects a shared commitment to trust and local connection across the BWG retail network with products developed in collaboration with suppliers from Cork, Galway, Wexford, Meath, and Waterford.
Jamie Tevlin, BWG Foods Trading Director, said: “Market Square Select represents the strength of independent retail in Ireland by bringing together our Mace and Londis retailers with some of the country’s most innovative food producers. This range is about making high-quality, locally produced products more accessible to customers across Ireland, while also supporting Irish suppliers to grow their businesses at scale.”
Galway’s Foods of Athenry are making two Market Square Select Granolas using Irish-grown oats. The bakery is based on their family farm in East Galway and was established in 2004 as a small-scale venture.
The range’s jams, marmalades, and preserves will be supplied by the award-winning Wexford Home Preserves who handmake all their products using the traditional open-pot boiling method.
Supplying coffee to the range will be Waterford’s Coffee House Lane, whose Market Square Select Coffee is 100% speciality-grade and hand-roasted in Waterford to achieve a medium roast and is available in whole bean or ground.
