Na Laochra Aeracha and MTU continue partnership
A Cork university has kicked off its renewed sponsorship of Munster's first and only LGBTQ+ GAA club.
MTU sponsorship of Na Laochra Aeracha began last year and was hailed as a successful first year of collaboration. During that time, past and present MTU staff and students have engaged with the club, which has also benefited from access to MTU's sporting facilities and financial support.
Dr Pio Fenton, Vice President People and Culture at MTU, said: "Following a successful first year of partnership, we are proud to continue our sponsorship of Na Laochra Aeracha into the 2026/2027 sporting season.
“This ongoing collaboration reflects MTU's commitment to inclusion and to supporting our staff, students and the wider community through a strong sense of pride, belonging and participation.”
The club has continued to grow in 2026, welcoming 20 new members so far this year.
Its men's team competed in the Seandún GAA Division 4 League for the first time and is preparing for the Junior C Championship later this month. The club recently fielded 21 players for a challenge match, highlighting its continued growth and increasing participation.
Erin O'Donovan, Secretary of Na Laochra Aeracha, said: “The club has grown from strength to strength and we have had 20 new members so far this year.
“It was the first year that the men competed in the Seandún League in Division 4 and they are looking forward to the Junior C Championship which starts at the end of this month.
“We had 21 players last week for a challenge match and this is a great number for us.”
