Cork trio win photography awards

Three Cork photographers have received awards for photographs taken in Cork, as part of the national Our Ireland, Our EU photography competition.

Aoife Claffey, Jessica Dale, and Dr Alan Magee all received their awards from Minister for Public Expenditure Jack Chambers TD at Government Buildings on Thursday 23 July.

Aoife Claffey took second place in category two, for her photograph ‘Interwoven Networks’. It featured engineers, artists, students and researchers taking part in a painting workshop at the Nimbus Research Centre, MTU.

Dr Alan Magee took third place in the same category, for his photograph, ‘When Robots Draw the Line’. It featured Dr Shakra Mehak of the Nimbus Research Centre, MTU, overseeing a robot arm tracing a graphite pattern.

Finally, Jessica Dale took third place in the first category for ‘In Am (On Time)’, a still shot of a train in motion at Cork’s Kent Station.

The Our Ireland, Our EU competition highlighted projects and initiatives supported through government and EU funding, showcasing their impact on communities, public spaces, education, skills development, and social inclusion.

The competition was organised by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation (DPER). It invited members of the public to capture the impact of projects co-funded by the European Union and Irish government.

The featured projects from Cork are funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the European Regional Development Fund.

A total of 82 eligible photograph were featured in the competition. More than 13,000 people visited the competition website and over 3,500 members of the public registered to vote for their favourite image.
