Crew for the chew!

The sensational Cork music collective behind the global viral hit ‘The Spark’ is back with a fresh mission: turning fruit and vegetables into its next big anthem.

The brand new original track and video, ‘Lidl Lunchbox Flex’, by northside-based The Kabin Crew, aims to encourage primary school children to be more curious when it comes to fresh ingredients.

The song celebrates building a “good routine”, choosing “food that’s clean”, and “watching what you munch, not the greasy kind of crunch”, while introducing children to practical food ideas like making smoothies and wraps.

The accompanying music video was filmed at a Lidl store in Charleville, The Kabin Studio and Terence Mac Swiney Community College in Knocknaheeny, and the eight acre Lidl Farm in Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The video is now live on The Kabin Studio and Lidl Ireland YouTube channels.

The new release follows the extraordinary success of ‘The Spark’, created by Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew. The track generated millions of views and attracted international attention and was named Irish Song of the Year at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize 2024.

Commenting on the new track, Garry McCarthy of the Kabin Studio, noted that one of the studio’s core priorities is to support the wellbeing of young people.

He said: “We believe creativity plays a huge role in building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging, but we also recognise how important physical activity and healthy eating are in helping young people feel their best.”

Over the past few months, the Kabin Studio has been running workshops that encourage young people to think more about the food they eat and how it can impact their energy, focus, and overall wellbeing.

“When Lidl approached us about creating a song celebrating the benefits of fruit and vegetables, it felt like a really natural fit,” said Mr McCarthy.

He continued: “The young people had lots of fun developing the performances and ideas for the video too, and their creativity shines through every part of the project.

“We hope ‘Lidl Lunchbox Flex’ encourages young people to see healthy food in a more positive, fun, and inspiring way!”

The track was created as part of Lidl Foodies, a new free national education programme launched by Lidl Ireland that aims to help children aged four to seven develop positive relationships with fruit and vegetables through practical, curriculum-linked learning. Backed by a €150,000 investment, the initiative is free of charge to primary schools across Ireland and aims to reach more than 30,000 pupils in its first year.

The first 150 teachers to register for the first module will receive a €100 Lidl gift card.
