Water Conservation Order extension

Uisce Éireann have this week revealed that the Water Conservation Order for Cork will be extended until 11.59pm on 30 September, as water sources and public water supplies in the county remain under pressure and need more time to recover.

The current nationwide order was due to expire at 11.59pm last night, Wednesday 26 August. However, the order will remain in place in Cork and 12 other counties where continued protection of water supplies is required.

The Water Conservation Order was introduced on 24 July following a prolonged period of hot and dry weather, high water use and growing pressure on public water supplies.

Uisce Éireann is continuing targeted tankering operations in Nohoval, Whitechurch, Reenascreena and Ardgehane to supplement local water supplies.

The continuation of nighttime restrictions in parts of Cork is essential to allow treated water reservoirs to recover and ensure daytime supply for homes, businesses and essential services.

Nighttime restrictions remain in place in Ballykenly (Johnstown) WTP, Cape Clear Island, Dunmahon WTP and Mitchelstown South WTP.
