A night of music for Mossie
A much-loved Cork sound engineer who passed away in 2023 will be remembered at a special fundraising gig this evening (Thursday).
Midleton man Mossie Connery, who suffered a stroke in 2020, was a hugely respected figure in Cork’s live music scene, known city wide for his skill and professionalism as a sound engineer, and his warmth and humour as a friend.
Kicking off from 7.30pm this evening at Cyprus Avenue, Cork city, tonight’s gig is a fundraiser for Cork Stroke Support (CSS), a charity that supported Mossie following his stroke in December 2020.
The service provided Mossie with physiotherapy, counselling, and an eight-week nurse-led program to help him recover and adapt to his new lifestyle changes.
Some of Cork’s finest bands and live musicians will take to the stage in Mossie’s memory this evening, with headline performances from The Service, Bog the Donkey, and The Moondogs.
They will be joined by an impressive lineup featuring The Hollyz, Kieran Kramer, Dots & The Dude, Gerrie O'Grady & Martin Finn, Joe O'Callaghan, Jamie Stanton, Hank Wedel, Audrey Lynch, and many more.
CSS continued to support Mossie and his family until his passing in 2023.
The proceeds of the event will go directly to the organisation's centre in Blackrock, helping to fund important services for stroke survivors, including rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and exercise programmes, while also providing essential support to families affected by stroke.
Mossie’s partner Suzanne Higgins said: “Everyone at the Cork Stroke Support were incredibly supportive to Mossie throughout his treatment at the centre and have continued to support and comfort me over the course of the last three years. It is a fantastic service to have in Cork and we are extremely grateful to the team at their centre in Blackrock.”
Dan Cronin, CSS chairperson, said: “We are really looking forward to celebrating Mossie, a hugely popular figure around Cork and especially at our centre in Blackrock. I can’t thank Suzanne and Mossie’s friends Conor O’Brien and Graham Keane enough for using this celebration as an opportunity to fundraise for our charity.”
Donations can be made at the gig or via idonate.ie/fundraiser/mossieconneryacelebration1.
