Major garda operation in Mahon

Gardaí from the Cork City Division carried out what they called a “high-impact search operation” targeting criminal activity in the city on Wednesday.

Six properties in the Mahon area were searched.

Gardaí seized €6,000 in cash, €1,000 worth of suspected heroin, and €600 worth of suspected crack cocaine.

They also seized electric scramblers, e-scooters, slash hooks, hammers, hurleys, baseball bats, machetes, swords, slingshots, diesel generators, a chainsaw, multiple power tools, and two caravans.

A man in his 20s was arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in a Garda Station in the Southern Region.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.

The search involved the Armed Support Unit, Dog Unit, Divisional Search Unit, Serious Crime Investigations Units, Community Engagement, Roads Policing, and Scenes of Crime Units.

Gardaí also worked alongside partners including Revenue, the Department of Social Protection, and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA).

The NSPCA seized ten dogs, one pony, and one horse. All of these animals will be examined by a veterinarian.
