Let's get knit started in here!

I’m just back from my holidays in the south of France and I’ve landed at Cork Airport into the middle of a weather warning.

I mean, what a welcome home that is. From the sandy beaches of Biarritz to the rainy streets of Cork city, you can't get much more different than that, but I will admit I was very excited to be packing away the summer gear and finally getting back into the autumn bits. It was lovely to get a final hurrah out of my summer clothes but having a look around the boutiques of France, I found myself drawn to and styling all the beautiful knitwear in my head.

It may sound like a cliche but there really is such a high number of unbelievably chic people there and I came back super inspired for the season ahead. There were a number of things that I’ll be introducing into my own wardrobe.

Now, it was such a delight not to have to consider a jacket or coat while I was away, but I was having serious jacket envy at the same time. One thing that looks set to be a huge trend, and one that so many French women were rocking, is a suede jacket. There were so many different styles and people were styling these jackets to perfection. I have a brown suede jacket that I bought a few years ago and I can’t wait to style it again this season. Wear with barrel leg jeans, a kitten heel boot, and add a paisley scarf.

I also saw some gorgeous styles with fringing so you can go as minimalist or as maximalist as you like. Of course, I couldn’t leave France without a jacket purchase, and I found the perfect one in a market. It’s the most unusual shade of chartreuse, mandarin collar and is quite oversized with a wide sleeve. I’m looking forward to styling with winter white denim and a pair of velvet Mary Janes.

There were also lots of rich wines, browns and greens about, especially in trousers, knitwear and boots, and all of these autumnal colours lend themselves so well to be paired with suedes and leathers. I picked up a pair of wine coloured barrel leg joggers from Vanilla boutique before I left, and I found the perfect Sezanne style collared blouse to wear with them in a resale store in a small French town, so I was delighted with my little holiday purchase.

In other news, I may just be back from holidays but there’s no rest for the wicked as I’m also off to a wedding at the weekend. I had to be super organised and get myself prepared before I left for holidays and pulled out a fab dress that I’ve worn to a wedding before and that I actually had forgotten about. My only issue is that it was still quite summery when I was leaving but now it feels decidedly autumnal so I may have to have a rethink.

I also spotted this stunning dress from Rare London with amazing tassels, and while I probably wouldn’t personally wear this shade of champagne/cream to a wedding it does also come in a beautiful wine colour. I love an autumn winter wedding as I feel like you can go wild with texture and really go for full on opulent glam.
