Cork city is set to come alive this winter as Christmas in Cork returns with its biggest programme to date, featuring six weeks of festive events, family entertainment, and new attractions running from 15 November to 31 December.
Presented by Cork City Council, the programme will see the return of popular festive favourites, including the Christmas Parade, Ferris Wheel at Grand Parade, and Christmas Markets making a return to Bishop Lucey Park, alongside free family entertainment at the Family Festive Hub in the Counting House Plaza.
The festivities will officially begin on Sunday 15 November, with the Christmas Parade taking to the streets from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Making a return to Cork for the first time in more than 20 years is French street theatre company Compagnie eliXir, whose performances combine circus, cabaret, hip-hop, and visual theatre.
Santa Claus will also make his traditional arrival, with the help of the elves at Cork City Fire Brigade, switching on the city's Christmas lights and officially opening the festive season.
The Christmas Markets will run at Bishop Lucey Park from 20 November to 22 December, opening Wednesday to Sunday. Visitors can browse a range of food producers, artisan makers, and local traders, with seasonal treats and unique Christmas gifts on offer.
The popular Ferris Wheel will return to Grand Parade from 27 November, offering visitors panoramic views of the city centre as it gets into the Christmas spirit.
Families will also be able to enjoy the Family Festive Hub at Counting House Plaza, which opens on 28 November and will run until 20 December. The free entertainment programme will include Christmas-themed games, circus and puppet shows, face painting and creative workshops with Cork Community Artlink.
Live music will feature throughout the programme, with performances from acts including the Barrack Street Band, The Kabin Crew and Boolaboom. Children's discos and games will also form part of the entertainment, with activities catering for children of all ages.
A new addition for 2026 is The Promise of Christmas, presented by St Fin Barre's Cathedral and supported by Cork City Council. Running from 9 to 19 December, the immersive light and sound experience will transform the cathedral through storytelling, projection, music and seasonal imagery inspired by Cork's history, traditions, and Christmas spirit. Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Damian Boylan, welcomed the announcement of the full programme, highlighting the return of the city's best-loved festive attractions: “Christmas is a special time in Cork when our city centre comes alive and people from across the city and county come together to enjoy the festive atmosphere. I encourage everyone to come into the city, shop local and enjoy all that Christmas in Cork has to offer. Nollaig Shona dhaoibh!”
From the Christmas Parade and festive markets to family attractions, live entertainment, and the new cathedral experience, this year's programme promises six weeks of festive celebrations across Cork city.
