As always, fake it till you make it!

Is there anything nicer than a golden glow? Now that autumn is here and hopes of an Indian summer have waned, it is comforting to know that you can of course fake it till you make it!

For a gradual glow, St Tropez Gradual Tan Watermelon Infusion (€19) is infused with hyaluronic acid and a refreshing watermelon scent. The ultra-lightweight lotion absorbs instantly, deeply nourishing and moisturising the skin for an even and streak free glow. Reapply daily to build your desired depth of tan and lock in moisture. It fades evenly and you can incorporate it into your daily body lotion regimen if you like to be tanned without the ugly fade off or the super pale tan free days.

Bellamianta has had a facelift with some brand-new branding and packaging while maintaining its quality celebrity-endorsed formula. Cult favourite, and a favourite of #BellaBabe Maura Higgins, Liquid Gold - Self Tanning Tinted Liquid (€19.99) is now not only available in Bellamianta Luxury Tanning’s new glowing rose gold packaging but also in a bigger 200ml bottle and in both medium and dark shades, making it the ultimate tanning essential.

As a non-celebrity with problematic skin, I can attest to the golden glow of this. The new look Liquid Gold is now available. The remaining products will have their new look revealed in the coming months.

In response to customer requests, the Lusso Tan trio of sisters has launched a new Sunless Tanning Hand and Face Brush, the perfect partner for flawless tanning application. The new product has been designed to be used in tandem with the Lusso Tan Hand and Face Tanning Mist, which delivers a natural sun kissed glow to the skin with a simple hydrating spritz.

Using the new kabuki brush to buff the product onto the skin results in a more flawless finish. The extra soft bristles are tightly compacted, meaning the product sits on top of the brush, rather than soaking in, which minimises waste and allows for a more even distribution on the skin. The bundle is available online at lussotan.com for €25.

TanOrganic has been re-awarded independent Ethical Accreditation for a tenth successive year, following an annual ethical audit by The Ethical Company Organisation, demonstrating the company’s long-standing ethical commitments. If you want to play it safe and go with something subtle then the Dark Mousse (€29.99) is not for you. It gives a nice even golden glow and I am happy with the fade off. An impressive formula, not only does this creamy foam apply easily but it does not stink!

The self-tan is designed to be hydrating, so it is perfect if you are prone to dryness as it will not cling to any rough areas of skin (we are talking wrists, ankles, knees and elbows). The light golden finish fades evenly over a week or so but can be topped up without going patchy. You can get 20 per cent off with the code glamityjane20 on any product in the range at tanorganic.com.

Now with that in mind, the tanning gurus at Cocoa Brown have given us some tanning tips:

Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, creating a smooth surface to apply the tan to.

Pop on your exfoliating gloves, add a dollop of Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff Body Scrub and rub in long sweeping strokes. The faster you sweep, the deeper the exfoliation. Pay close attention to dry areas (hands, feet, ankles, and elbows) and then moisturise. Make sure the exfoliation and moisturising take place at least 24 hours before application.

If you are applying tan after showering, wait at least 40 mins after your shower to allow pores to retract to normal. Or if you are in a rush, blast your skin with cold water to quickly shrink the pores.

Apply the mousse with a tanning mitt, in circular motions, methodically from legs working upwards, rather than darting from limb to limb!

Carefully wash palms of hands after application and allow tan to develop for 3-6 hours before washing off, or overnight.
