Our shopping habits are changing and evolving all the time. I’ve noticed now more than ever people have a real sense of wanting to shop local and support Irish business, which of course, is always a good thing. People also want the ease of shopping online but want to combine that with buying local. Somewhere like marketstreet.ie is perfect for that as it sells products from Irish designers and is the ideal place to pick up beautiful gifts for your loved ones.

Launched in 2019, marketstreet.ie is an online marketplace hosting some of Ireland's most unique products and designers, bringing gifts for all occasions straight to your home. Set up by marketing consultant Michele Ryan, marketstreet.ie was born when Michele, like many of us, found herself looking at UK and international sites for personalised, creative gifts for loved ones. What started as a small idea has now blossomed into a website that stocks products from 150 designers.

Michele felt, with the vast amount of amazing Irish brands and products available at home, that she should be able to find them in a one stop shop supporting local businesses.

“I like buying unique and personalised gifts when I can, and being a mum of two young kids, it wasn’t as easy to get out to markets or shops to have a look for gifts. I spent quite a while looking online and found it very hard to find what I was looking for from Irish makers. This is where marketstreet.ie was born!

“Why should I buy from international sellers online on Etsy when I knew there were so many creative makers in Ireland? I want to buy Irish and support Irish, as do so many people now in the current economic climate,” she said.

Some of the brands marketstreet.ie stocks are Stork & Co, Woof Stuff, Eco Mutt, Dink Studio and De Blaca Jewellery who cover everything from art prints, cards, jewellery and accessories to kids and pet gifts.

My favourite pieces in particular being from goldsmith Sinead Murphy whose jewellery label Cosmic Boulevard features dainty glistening sterling silver and gold stars, gemstone UFO rings, pendants and statement pieces. They are perfect for the stargazer in your life who likes quirky gems that are easy to layer.

Speaking of gifts, I got quite the shock the other day when someone told me they had all their Christmas shopping done as a precaution in case we go back into lockdown. Now, no judgement if any of you have done this, I admire your forward planning, but as someone who buys gifts at the very last minute I cannot envisage myself being this organised in September. However now that I’m perusing this website I am seeing bits and pieces that I know would make great gifts for people I know and realistically buying things here and there would take the financial pressure off buying all your gifts in December.

Anyway I absolutely digress and I can’t believe that I’ve mentioned Christmas in September.

I feel deeply ashamed of myself for even bringing it up and sure we haven’t even celebrated Halloween yet!

No doubt the mere mention of the C word at such an early point in the year will have sent people into a rage. Apologies!
